Poster Printing Sizes — A2, A1 and Large Format Explained

The A-series in plain numbers

  • A4 — 210 × 297 mm (standard paper)
  • A3 — double A4 (297 × 420 mm)
  • A2 — double A3 (420 × 594 mm)
  • A1 — double A2 (594 × 841 mm)
  • A0 — double A1 (841 × 1189 mm)

Every step up doubles the area. Anything smaller than A3 reads as a handout, not a poster.

A3 — for indoor notice boards

A3 posters live on lift walls, cafe notice boards and classroom doors. Read from 1–2 metres. Good for detailed information: event schedules, menus, policy notices. Cheap to print and easy to replace when details change.

A2 — the event and promotion size

A2 is the most common "poster" size in the UK. Read from 2–4 metres. Suitable for shop windows, bus-stop-style promotions and academic conference posters. Fits on most copy-shop printers with no special equipment.

A1, A0 and beyond

A1 and A0 are true large-format posters, read from 4+ metres. Ideal for exhibition stands, retail displays and film festival boards. Usually printed on roll-fed wide-format printers rather than sheet printers — expect a longer turnaround and slightly higher price per sheet.

In short

We handle A4 through A2 as standard and can arrange A1/A0 through a large-format partner. Ask about mounting or lamination at the same time — laminating an A2 poster doubles its life.
